Juvenile Section

The O'Raghallaighs GFC has got one of the best Juvenile setups in the county of Louth. We have over 100 Juveniles every Tuesday night from 6.45 to 7.45 that are looked after by our mentors. On Tuesday nights we cater for children from age 12 down to 6. If you would like to register your child to play for the O'Raghallaighs GFC contact just simply call up on the nights of training and we can let you know the details.

O/Raghallaighs under 9’s travelled the Mary’s in Ardee on Monday 10 th May for the latest round of Og Sport matches. As always they travelled with large no’s of players and parents. Unfortunately as is becoming the norm other clubs did not arrive with the number of players they have committed to thus meaning some clubs players are not getting the standard of opposition or game time which was the norm in previous years. Undeterred the Rath’s first opposition were local rivals the Newtown Blues.

O’Raghallaighs   1-11      Newtown Blues    0-5

The Rath’s started all their under 9’s in this first match. Unfortunately the Blues only had 7 players so the Rath’s had 8 subs. In the first halt the Rath’s were in the ascendancy with Jack Bell the outstanding player on the pitch in defence coming onto the ball and driving forward setting up most of the scores. He was ably assisted in defence by Shea Heslin who played his best football of the season. As is the norm Michael Connolly chipped in with his usual couple of scores. In the second period the Rath’s fielded a completely different team of under 8’s with Fiachara Lambe and Andrew Collier adding to the scores. In the end the Rath’s were comfortable but the 7 Blues players are to be congratulated on contributing to a competitive game where they ran out of steam towards the end. Bragging rights in school the next day goes to the green and white hoops.

O’Raghallaighs   1-7       Ardee     1-7

In the second round Ardee provided a much stiffer test. Both teams fielded 10 players leading to congestion in the middle of the park at times. A good display of fundamental skills on display by both teams in this one.  The 3 O’Raghallaighs midfielders of Connel Rice, Nathan Cassidy and Conor Vaughey worked hard with Marc Scullion dominant in defence. Rob McCormack gave a great display of catching and kicking from goals he showed a safe pair of hands all night Arsene Wenger might well take a look at him to ease his goalkeeping crisis.

O’Raghallaighs   2-6     Mattock Rangers   2-5

In their last outing of the night Mattock borrowed 2 Rath’s players for each half to give as many players a game as possible. It shows the progress this young team are making that all 4 who played for Mattock were probably the stars for Mattock. Thanks to Jack Bell, Fiachara Lambe, Shea Heslin and Darragh O’Rourke for playing with the opposition.  In this one for the Rath’s Tim Curran worked tirelessly Tony Smith kicked a great score. Luke Burke chipped in with a couple of scores and Dylan Curran was a colossus in defence. Darragh O’Rourke starred for the Rath’s in the first half and equally starred for Mattock in the second despite the threat of being dropped from the sideline if he scored against his Rath’s colleagues.

A great evening’s entertainment was had by all and it’s great to see such large numbers of young players lining out in the green and white hoops again. It certainly looks like a very bright future ahead for the North Roaders at under age level.

Squad:
Michael Connolly, Tim Curran,  Darragh O’Rourke,  Connel Rice,  Fiachra Lambe, Marc Scullion,  Shea Heslin,  Rob McCormack, Jack Bell, Andrew Collier,  Conor Vaughey, Nathan Cassidy Tony Smith, Dylan Curran, Luke Burke.

Mentors:
Aidan Lambe and Pat Rice.

The evening of Thursday May 6th was  an historic day in the O’Raghallaighs clubs young life as for the first time an O’Raghallaighs girl's team took to the pitch in the club colours.

The girl's team played their first match away to the Dreadnots in Clogherhead. The girl's range in ages from 9 to 13 so we had to find a team that would accommodate such a wide verity of ages so we are much obliged to the dreadnots for accommodating us.

ORGFC Girls team 2010

As it was the girl's first match they took their time to come to terms with the game and they soon found themselves three points down and if it wasn’t for some fine defending by Jade McElroy, Sarah Callan and Lauren Flynn they could have been more in arrears . As the game wore on the midfield of Georgia Mc Cann, Amy Kinsella and Margaret Mullarkey started to come to grips with the game and as they got to see more of the ball began to influence the eventual outcome of the game.

The second half saw the girl's grow stronger and stronger as score after score come from the forward line of Shannon Wilson, Doireann Dullaghan and Bronagh Hanna. Also some fine scores were worked well from midfield and it the end it was the superior accuracy in front of goal that saw the girl's home with a score line 1-5 to 0-6.

The club would like to thank the dreadnots for providing us with the chance to let the girl's play. The club would also like to thank Dean Cassidy and Denise King for all their hard work in coaching the girl's. The girl's hope to have their next match in the next two weeks at home to the same opposition

UNDER 10’S
The O’Raghallaighs under 10 team got their season off to a good start with a three game blitz in Dowdallshill last night Monday the 12th April. The young Raghs played their games against St Mochtas and against the Joe’s first and second teams. While scores were hard to come by in all the games some fantastic scores were taken by Conor Vaughey, Emmet Reilly and Michael Connolly. At the other end PJ Carr, Ben Moonan and Nathan Cassidy were strong in defence. In all the whole team done very well and showed some excellent skill in all their games for their first outing of the season. It was also great to see a very strong support for all the young Raghs and we would encourage this to continue through out the season. Next Blitz is next Monday at home under 9 all support welcome.

Team; Tim Curran, Nathan Cassidy, Conor Vaughey, Emmet Reilly, Cameron Griffin, Conel Rice, Tony Smith, Andrew Collier, Michael Connolly, Shea Heslin, Mikey Mc Mahon, Robert Mc Cormack, Ben Moonan, PJ Carr.

UNDER 14….. 4-9 to 7-17
O’Raghallaighs Under 14’s had their second start of the season last night against a strong Clan Na Gael outfit last night (wed 14th)… missing a few of their key players the young O’Raghs side did very well to hold the much stronger clans team to only a few scores in the first half with some fine defending from Ciaran Cassidy and Ciaran Tuite while in goal Robert Morgan made some first class save thru out the game.. With some nice scores from Neil Levins and Scott Byrne the Raghs stayed in touch with their counter parts until the last few minutes of the game when the clans scored with a few easy scores to make the score line look a little flattering to them. All in all it was another good run out for the under 14s and the manager was very happy by the effort put in by the whole team.

Team; Robert Morgan, Ciaran Cassidy Ciaran Tuite, Dara Boylan, Neil Levins, Scott Byrne, Olan Walsh, Ciaran Vaughey. Dylan Murphy, Jack Carr and Padraig Heslin.
